Director Jon M. Chu has confirmed that Jonathan Bailey will play Fiyero in the “Wicked” movies after Variety reported that the actor was in talks to join the cast.

The “Bridgerton” star will play Fiyero in the two-part feature adaptation headlined by Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba. The Universal Pictures films are set for release on Christmas in 2024 and 2025.

“Wicked” is a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz,” telling the story of how Elphaba became the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch.

“We decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one ‘Wicked’ movie but two!” Chu wrote in a statement when announcing the two-parter. “With more space, we can tell the story of ‘Wicked’ as it was meant to be told while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys for these beloved characters.”

In July, it was announced that Bailey will play Matt Bomer’s love interest in “Fellow Travelers,” Showtime’s limited series adaptation of Thomas Mallon’s novel of the same name. Bailey recently starred in a West End production of the Mike Bartlett play “Cock.” He won a Laurence Olivier Award in 2019 for his work in the London production of “Company.”

Bailey is represented by Anonymous Content, Conway van Gelder Grant Ltd, CAA, Relevant and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox.

Production on “Bridgerton” Season 3 is underway and the cast is celebrating with a new video.

In the brand new clip, shared on social media on Wednesday, July 20, the cast members are filmed holding up two fingers. They then flip them around to reveal three fingers for Season 3, a move Viscount Anthony Bridgerton did (with three and four) when he playfully teased Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) in Season 2 before dancing with her at the ball where they eventually admitted their love for each other.

And Jonathan Bailey, who is returning as the head of the Bridgerton family leads off the video. Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington, makes the official announcement, though, saying, “‘Bridgerton’ Season 3 filming has official begun.”

I’ve managed to screen cap the video for you. Enjoy!

Jonathan Bailey is set to star in the Showtime Limited Series Fellow Travelers alongside Matt Bomer and Allison Williams. The new gig is in addition to his return to Bridgerton as Anthony Bridgerton for Season 3.

Bailey will portray the character of Tim Laughlin, a young Fordham University graduate, earnest about his political and religious convictions and filled with optimism about the post-WWII future.

Fellow Travelers is a love story and political thriller, chronicling the volatile romance of two very different men who meet in the shadow of McCarthy-era Washington. Bomer will play handsome, charismatic Hawkins Fuller, who maintains a financially rewarding, behind-the-scenes career in politics. Hawkins avoids emotional entanglements – until he meets Tim Laughlin, a young man brimming with idealism and religious faith.

They begin a romance just as Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declare war on “subversives and sexual deviants,” initiating one of the darkest periods in 20th-century American history. Over the course of four decades, Hawk and Tim cross paths through the Vietnam War protests of the 1960s, the drug-fueled disco hedonism of the 1970s, and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s, while facing obstacles in the world and in themselves.

The 8-episode limited series—based on the Thomas Mallon novel of the same name— is created by Oscar nominee Ron Nyswaner. Bomer and Nyswaner executive produce with Robbie Rogers. Daniel Minahan will executive produce and direct the first two episodes.

The co-production between Fremantle and Showtime will begin production later this month in Toronto.
